Schedule (2)

A Day at Ramah

Camp days begin and end for many of our campers at the bus stop, with programs, games, songs and cheers built into the ride to and from camp. Once our whole camp family has arrived, whether by bus or by car, chanichim (campers) spend time each day with their edah (age group) and their co-ed, grade specific kvutsah (group). In these groups, chanichim learn new songs and cheers, participate in theme days, and engage in developmentally appropriate Jewish rituals and t'fillot (services).

Each week, campers also have the opportunity to pick the chugim (electives) that they are most excited about – which also allows them to spend time with campers from other kvutsot.

Our on-site day begins at 9:00am and ends at 3:15pm.

Our Activities

At Ramah Day Camp LA, we offer a wide variety of activities, and choice is built into our program. Within a typical day, chanichim (campers) have the opportunity to experience our activities together with their smaller kvutsah (group), and then get to experience the chugim (electives) they have chosen for themselves.

Jewish Life at Ramah Day Camp LA

Jewish values and practice inform all of our decisions. Our educational program will strengthen your child’s connection to Judaism and to the people, land, and State of Israel.

Our program is designed to help everyone feel instantly at home, no matter their Jewish education background. Our education is deliberate and informal; Judaism is lived and learned through the arts, physical activity, and an environment rich with Hebrew language.

We begin each meal and snack with a moment of mindfulness and a bracha (blessing), and conclude with the singing of birkat hamazon (blessing after meals), a cornerstone of the Jewish summer camp experience.

Daily morning t'filah (prayer service) familiarizes campers with the siddur (prayerbook) and jump-starts each day with feelings of gratitude, awareness, and wonder. Like all camp activities, our t'filah experience is engaging, passionate, musical, and fun. We engage in Shabbat t'fillot on Friday afternoons designed to get us in the spirit of Shabbat and to celebrate a moment of rest and joy with our camp kehillah (community). In keeping with our values and affiliations with the Conservative movement, all t'fillot at Ramah Day Camp LA are fully egalitarian.

All food provided by Ramah Day Camp LA is certified kosher.

Our Campus

Ramah Day Camp LA is located on the campus of de Toledo High School in West Hills, CA. Our facility provides ample grassy fields and sports courts, air conditioned indoor program spaces, and an indoor swimming pool. With safety and security as our top priorities, we work alongside our partners at de Toledo to ensure that the latest safety measures are employed. de Toledo is a closed campus, protected by security at all times.

Transportation

Bus Riders:
Ramah Day Camp LA offers our families safe, supervised bus transportation from throughout the Greater LA area. In fact, the camp day begins and ends at the bus stop! Our staff have planned programs, games, songs, and cheers to make the bus ride an integral part of the camp experience.

Generally, our morning pick up times are between 8:00-8:30 am. Campers are dropped off in the afternoon between 4:00-4:30pm. If there are significant changes in timing due to weather or traffic conditions, we strive to notify families through our Ramah Day Camp LA app. Bus transportation is provided for a small fee each session- this money goes directly to our bus company.

(Exact pick up and drop off locations and times will be provided closer to Opening Day; we are committed to developing the most efficient transportation routes each summer to best serve our community. Our bus routes are dependent on enrollment and staffing.)

Carpoolers:
For
chanichim who live close to camp and don’t require bus transportation, our staff will greet your child(ren) at your car and escort them to the fun waiting just inside!  We ask that campers are dropped off between 9:00-9:15am. Pick up is at 3:15pm.

Health & Well Being

There is nothing more important to us than the health and well being of our community.  Ramah Day Camp LA believes that all people are betzelem elohim – created in the image of God – and is committed to the sacred work of protecting the physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual health of all of our campers and staff.

The attention we pay to every single camper and the systems we have in place to train and oversee our staff allow us to ensure that every camper at Ramah Day Camp LA feels safe and supported. Our summer team includes a camp nurse who is on site at all times, as well as yoetzot (parent liaisons) whose role is to ensure that each child is having a positive camp experience while maintaining clear and open communication with their families.

If you have any questions about camper care, please don’t hesitate to contact us at daycamp@ramah.org.
